Many is the time we come across the ‘waterproof voice’ in a meeting, the voice we cannot drown out and ultimately the voice we stop listening to. There is great merit in listening for a good while longer than we speak, the act of listening will inform us of what we need to do, when we need to do and how we need to do it.

It is true, ’empty vessels make most noise’ and in business the creation of noise is sometimes the result of misplaced marketing and advertising. The brain is predominantly an auditory organ, it responds to sound far more readily than it does to visual clues yet we often usurp the skilled verbal message with a crass visual assault.

The following video is a bit longer than normal but it is powerful. If you do see your own business in the presentation you are in good company, most people do!
Business and life are not necessarily about what we want but more about what we can give, learning to understand what people need is more arduous than telling them what we think they should have but it is manifestly more rewarding.
