Even the SEO people are starting to “get it” with regard to content. Keep in mind that getting more people to your site (SEO) is only one small piece of the puzzle. If you content is bad … no amount of SEO will save you. Now, here’s an SEO expert waxing eloquent about video and he gets it right. Weeeelllll, turns out he’s only MOSTLY right. He says website owners can make great content themselves. This much is true, they … can. HOWEVER, the number who actually do make great video content are a very small minority. I can’t tell you how many do-it-yourself video’s I’ve seen from single person operations to companies selling 70 million dollars a year in the nutriceutical sector that are awful. Bad concept, bad scripting, bad on camera talent, bad lighting, bad sound, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad! Well, maybe not THAT bad. But Lord, it’s not good. I saw one where the company owner sat down in front of the camera to discuss the why’s and wherefore’s of his service. He looked hung-over, his office was a complete shambles, he was about 8 feet from the camera and using the on-camera mic! What’s more he mumbled and stumbled his way through the presentation rarely looking into the camera lens — so he seemed completely disconnected from the viewer! In the end the company looked like amateurs and should have been embarrassed. Now, how do you suppose that reflects on the company overall? Hmmm? Other than that small failing the article has a few good ideas.
